Short term Fellowship at the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre

Based at Epsom General Hospital, SWLEOC is a partnership commissioned by four South West London acute hospital Trusts and provides routine and complex elective and non-urgent emergency orthopaedic surgery services to patients aged over 18.

SWLEOC was rated as Outstanding by the CQC in their 2016 report.

SWLEOC is one the largest hip and knee replacement centre in the UK and one of the largest in the world. It performs around 6,300 procedures per year with some patients referred from around the UK and internationally. Sub-specialties include hip and knee arthroplasty and revisions surgery, a young adult hip service, shoulder and elbow soft tissue and arthroplasty surgery and spinal surgery.

There are two 27-bed inpatient wards and a 17-bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), which includes a Day Case Unit, all of which are covered by consultant intensivists. There is an outpatients department for clinics and research clinics. There are six laminar flow operating theatres.

The post-holders will spend in Outpatient Clinic or in theatre as first assistant to the Consultant Surgeons. There will be the opportunity to contribute to audits, service and research.

The post is full time, 40 hours per week, and does not include any on call commitments. The opportunity for additional work on Saturdays is also available on an ad hoc basis.

Our Care of the Elderly team is looking to recruit three full-time substantive Consultants in Geriatric and General Medicine.

We aim to provide individualised person-centred care in the right setting at the right time.

These appointments are anticipated to commence as soon as possible and are based at St Helier Hospital with the potential to work at Epsom Hospital too. The successful candidates will support the further development of services aimed at the providing excellent care to the older person from community to hospital and back home. Locum Consultant General Paediatrician

We are currently looking to recruit a Consultant Paediatrician to Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children, St Helier Hospital, to help deliver our service in the boroughs of Merton and Sutton. This post is a replacement post and will be based at St Helier hospital.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the acute General Paediatric team during working hours to provide routine day to day acute paediatric services and share the out of hours on call responsibilities. The post holder will be attending Consultant on a 1 in 5 week basis on the General Paediatric ward and provide on call cover with a frequency of 1 in 8 including weekends and Bank holidays.

The post holder is expected to contribute specifically to the wide range of acute paediatric services including the first fit clinic.

Applicants are expected to be on the GMC specialist register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview.

The successful applicant will play a crucial role in ensuring the team continue to deliver a high quality service and will be involved in strategic planning of services with our local partners. The post holder will join a team of 18 Acute Paediatric Consultants and 3 Associate Specialists. There are also 15 middle grade and 16 junior doctors on the acute paediatric and neonatal rotas, in addition to Clinical Nurse Specialists for Epilepsy, Asthma, Allergy, Gastroenterology and Diabetes.

Routine educational activities include weekly junior doctor teaching programme in addition to Quality meetings, Child Protection Peer review and Mortality & Morbidity meetings run as part of the monthly programme. There will be opportunities to build and further teaching and training ambitions, as we have middle grade trainees within the department.

Principle Duties of the Post



The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients.

We are looking for a full time highly motivated Patient Service Administrator who will provide high quality administrative support. This will include liaising with clinicians, clients, referring parties and other administrative staff.
