Remote Work Helps, but Crunch is Real
Pros: The remote work policy at Deriv was a lifesaver. As a Software Engineer, I really appreciated the flexibility to manage my day, which was great for my work-life balance. Pay and benefits were also quite competitive for the fintech industry.
Cons: However, project deadlines could get intense here. We often had to put in extra hours, especially before major releases on the online trading platform. It's tough to maintain that good work-life balance during those crunch periods.
Advice to Management: Try to plan projects with more buffer time to reduce the need for last-minute crunch. Better resource allocation would really help Software Engineers maintain a healthier work-life balance, especially in this remote setup.

Career progression can be tough for engineers
Pros: The remote work flexibility is really good. You get solid exposure to the online trading platform and financial services sector, which is valuable. It's a stable, growing company.
Cons: Career progression for a Software Engineer can feel pretty slow here. There aren't many clear paths or big project opportunities to really boost your skills or get promoted. It gets a bit stagnant after a while.
Advice to Management: Focus on creating more defined career paths for technical roles. Provide clear frameworks for skill development and offer more chances for internal mobility, especially for software engineers.

Okay Pay, But Leadership Needs a Reboot
Pros: The pay and benefits are pretty solid for the fintech industry, especially for a Software Engineer. The hybrid work model is also a big plus, giving some good flexibility.
Cons: Leadership often feels pretty detached from daily operations. There's not enough clear direction from the top, which makes things tough in the Kuala Lumpur office. Decisions sometimes come out of nowhere.
Advice to Management: Work on improving communication channels. Get closer to the teams and understand the day-to-day challenges. More transparency would help a lot.
