Culture is standard corporate, has its moments
Pros: It's a big company, so there's solid job security in the insurance brokerage industry. Some teams in the New York City office are really solid, with good people who genuinely help each other out. You can find your niche if you try.
Cons: The overall corporate environment can feel a bit stiff sometimes. Decisions move slowly, and it's tough to make big changes, even with good ideas. The hybrid model means less natural team bonding, which impacts the day-to-day vibe.
Advice to Management: Try to empower teams more and speed up decision-making within the corporate environment. Foster more bottom-up innovation and actively work on strengthening the sense of community in the hybrid model.

Career path is a bit hazy here
Pros: You get solid exposure to lots of clients and different industries, which is great for learning the insurance brokerage business. It's a stable company, good job security. The benefits package is pretty decent too.
Cons: Career progression for an Associate Client Advisor feels really slow. There isn't a clear roadmap for promotion or how to move up. You often have to push hard or move teams to see real growth. It's tough to feel like you're climbing.
Advice to Management: Leadership needs to create clearer career paths and more mentorship opportunities, especially for junior folks in client solutions roles. It would help retain talent if people knew what their next step was.

Decent company culture, but bureaucracy weighs you down
Pros: You learn a ton about the insurance brokerage industry here. There's a solid network, especially in the New York City office, which is good for professional contacts. It's a very stable, corporate environment.
Cons: The culture can feel pretty old-school and slow-moving. Innovation isn't really a priority, and there's a lot of red tape for Client Advisor roles. It's tough to get new ideas off the ground.
Advice to Management: Really try to empower teams to innovate and cut down on the layers of approval. Encourage more modern ways of working, especially for client-facing roles.

Decent Stability, Work-Life Balance Can Be Tricky
Pros: For an Account Manager role in a major insurance brokerage, the pay and benefits are solid. There's also some hybrid work flexibility, which helps with the commute in New York City. You generally know what to expect day-to-day.
Cons: Work-life balance can definitely suffer. Client demands often mean long hours, especially at quarter-end. It's hard to fully disconnect, and you sometimes feel pressure to be available beyond standard business hours.
Advice to Management: Try to manage client expectations more actively. Support teams need better staffing to help ease the workload on front-line Account Managers. This would really improve overall employee well-being.

Big company, decent stability, but slow culture.
Pros: I liked the solid benefits package. As an Account Manager here, you definitely get to work on big commercial insurance accounts. The hybrid work model from the New York City office was pretty good.
Cons: The company culture is pretty traditional, it's tough to get new ideas heard. There's a lot of old-school thinking, so innovation isn't always a priority. It can feel a bit isolating sometimes, not super collaborative.
Advice to Management: Try to encourage more fresh ideas from junior staff. Really focus on building a more connected, collaborative environment across departments. It would make a big difference.

Decent Hybrid Setup, Could Be Better for Flexibility
Pros: The hybrid work model is a solid perk for us in the New York City office. We get a couple WFH days which helps cut down on the commute. This is good for Account Manager roles since client meetings can be demanding.
Cons: True work flexibility is still a work in progress. It's not like you can just shift your hours much if you have personal stuff. Sometimes it feels like they push for more in-office time even when it's not strictly necessary for our corporate insurance clients.
Advice to Management: Really consider more flexible hours for Account Manager roles. It helps with retention, especially in a competitive corporate insurance market.

Hybrid is okay, but could be better
Pros: I like the hybrid setup for Account Managers; it means I'm not stuck in the New York City office five days a week. We usually do 2-3 days WFH, which is helpful for personal stuff. The technology support for remote work is pretty solid too.
Cons: While hybrid is an option, there's often pressure to come in for client meetings or 'team collaboration' days that don't always feel necessary. It can be tough for work-life balance when you commute for just one meeting. For a global firm, I thought the flexibility would be a bit more robust.
Advice to Management: Trust your Account Managers more with remote work. If we can get the job done from home, don't make us commute for 'face time' unless it's truly essential for clients or critical team activities.

Career growth is slow for insurance brokerage roles.
Pros: You get exposed to a lot in commercial insurance and risk management here. There are good internal training resources if you seek them out. It's a solid place to build foundational experience, especially in a large organization like Marsh.
Cons: Career growth was tough for Senior Account Manager roles. It felt pretty stagnant after a few years. It's hard to move up without switching teams or even companies. There aren't clear, fast paths for advancement.
Advice to Management: Create more defined and transparent career progression paths for employees. Recognize and reward internal talent consistently to prevent brain drain.

Marsh offers pretty solid job security
Pros: For Senior Account Manager roles, especially in insurance brokerage, it feels secure. Marsh is a big corporate firm with steady client retention. It's rare to see widespread layoffs affecting core roles.
Cons: While job security is good, career growth can feel slow sometimes. There's not always a clear path to advance quickly, even in the Chicago office. Salary increases tend to be pretty conservative annually.
Advice to Management: Recognize the long-term loyalty of employees and offer clearer paths for internal mobility and faster salary progression.

Solid Stability, but Culture Feels Stale
Pros: Marsh is a pretty stable place for a big corporate gig. The benefits for commercial insurance roles are solid. You get decent job security, which is good in this market.
Cons: The company culture can feel really old-school and stiff, especially in the New York City office. There's not much room for new ideas, which is tough for innovation in risk management. Plus, WFH flexibility is getting stricter for us, even as Account Managers.
Advice to Management: Management needs to truly embrace a modern culture. Listen to employees on work arrangements and encourage innovation in the insurance brokerage space. It's time to adapt to today's workforce expectations.
