Growth can be slow in this corporate environment
Pros: You learn a lot about patient monitoring technology here. The projects are complex, which is good for technical skills. You get solid exposure to the medical device industry, which looks decent on a resume.
Cons: Career progression for a Software Engineer feels really slow. There aren't many clear paths to advance, even in the Irvine office. You pretty much stay in your lane unless you actively fight for something new.
Advice to Management: Management needs to create clearer career paths for individual contributors, especially for engineering roles. Encourage internal mobility more and provide actual mentorship programs.

Okay management, but senior leadership is detached.
Pros: My direct manager was great and really supported my growth as a Software Engineer. The team leads in the Irvine, CA office were pretty solid too, making for a decent day-to-day experience. There's good job stability in the medical device industry here.
Cons: Higher leadership often seems out of touch with what's happening on the ground. Decisions for our healthcare tech products can take forever to get made. Plus, communication from the top about strategy, especially with our hybrid work model, isn't always clear.
Advice to Management: Try to be more visible and transparent with the teams. It'd really help if senior leadership understood the daily challenges faced by engineers working on these complex medical device projects. Open communication about the hybrid work model and its future would also be appreciated.

Career Growth Can Be Slow at Masimo
Pros: You'll definitely learn a lot working in the medical device industry. There's interesting, cutting-edge tech for a Software Engineer. The hybrid model for the Irvine, CA office is pretty flexible.
Cons: Career growth here isn't always straightforward. Promotions feel few and far between for tech roles. There's not much clear mentorship or defined paths to move up.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer career paths and more robust mentorship programs for your engineers. It's tough to see where you're going without a roadmap.
