Decent place, but flexibility could improve
Pros: You get solid benefits here. The pay for an R&D Scientist is pretty competitive for the Kalamazoo, MI area, which is a plus. Also, the natural ingredients industry is stable, so job security feels okay.
Cons: Work flexibility is a major issue for scientific roles; it's mostly onsite. There isn't much room for hybrid work, which can be tough when you need personal time. It feels a bit old-school in that regard.
Advice to Management: Really look into modernizing your approach to work flexibility. Offering more hybrid work options, even just a few days a week, would significantly boost morale for scientific and technical staff. It's crucial for attracting and retaining talent in today's market.

Hybrid model works if you're lucky
Pros: I liked that there was a hybrid model option, especially for my role as an R&D Scientist. Being able to WFH a couple of days a week helped with personal appointments without having to use PTO. It's a nice perk for employees at the Kalamazoo office when it actually works.
Cons: The work flexibility isn't consistent across all teams in the company. Some managers are super strict about onsite expectations, even when a lot of the product development work could easily be done remotely. This made things unnecessarily tough sometimes, feeling like we had to be there just to be seen.
Advice to Management: Please try to standardize the hybrid policy across all departments. It feels pretty unfair when some teams get more flexibility than others, especially for folks in product development and other R&D roles in the food ingredients industry. Support everyone equally.

Decent Benefits, But Pay Needs Work
Pros: The health benefits package is pretty solid here. Dental and vision insurance are good, which is a big plus. The 401k match is also a decent perk for a company in the food ingredient manufacturing space.
Cons: Salaries for a Lab Technician in Kalamazoo, MI just don't keep up with the cost of living. Raises are small, and it's tough to get a significant pay bump. Bonuses are pretty rare, making it hard to feel truly valued.
Advice to Management: Please review the compensation structure, especially for roles like Lab Technicians. Investing more in competitive salaries would really help with employee retention and morale here in Kalamazoo, MI.
