Startup Culture Can Be Fun, But Also Hectic
Pros: The team in the NYC office is genuinely collaborative and friendly. It's a fun startup environment where people really believe in the product, which is great for anyone in the fitness tech industry. There's a good vibe overall, especially when it comes to social events and team building. We often get discounts for wellness activities, which is a nice perk.
Cons: Company culture sometimes feels a bit cliquey, and not always inclusive for new hires. As a Marketing Coordinator, I felt like getting visibility for my projects was often an uphill battle. Leadership communication can be inconsistent, leading to confusion about strategy. It's tough when priorities shift suddenly without much explanation.
Advice to Management: Focus on building a more inclusive company culture for all employees, especially new hires. Clearer communication from leadership about strategic shifts would also greatly improve employee morale and direction.

Leadership at ClassPass: It's a mixed bag.
Pros: I've worked with some really smart senior managers here. They genuinely care about the product and the fitness tech space. Our team had good autonomy to tackle features as a Product Manager.
Cons: Upper leadership changes a lot, which makes strategy feel unstable. Communication from the top isn't always clear, especially in our hybrid work model. It's hard to understand the "why" behind big shifts.
Advice to Management: Try to create more stability at the executive level. Better communicate strategic decisions and their reasoning to all employees, especially those remote from the New York City office.

Tough Hours for a Fitness Tech Startup
Pros: The compensation and benefits package is really solid, especially for a fitness tech company. You get a lot of perks, like free ClassPass credits which is cool. There's also some bright, smart people here in the New York City office.
Cons: Work-life balance as a Software Engineer is tough; 50-60 hour weeks aren't uncommon. There's constant pressure to deliver fast in this startup environment. It's hard to maintain personal commitments with the demanding schedule.
Advice to Management: Management needs to really look at workload distribution for engineering teams. It's not sustainable to expect constant crunch. More focus on employee well-being would go a long way.

Job security can be a real worry here
Pros: I liked working on the product, it's a cool concept in the fitness tech industry. My team had some smart folks, which was great for a Software Engineer role.
Cons: Honestly, job security felt pretty low. We saw multiple rounds of layoffs, even in the New York City office. It makes you wonder about your future at this mid-sized tech company.
Advice to Management: Try to provide more transparency and stability for employees. Constant reorgs and layoffs really hurt morale and make people look elsewhere.

Decent perks but base salary could be better
Pros: The ClassPass credit benefit is awesome for fitness enthusiasts, especially working in the New York, NY office. It's great to try different studios without paying extra. For a Customer Experience Specialist, the health insurance plans are pretty solid too.
Cons: Base compensation for startup roles, especially for customer service positions, feels a bit low compared to other tech industry companies in the city. There isn't much room for salary negotiation either. Stock options or equity aren't really part of the package for non-senior roles.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate base salaries for individual contributor roles, especially for long-term employees. Consider offering some form of equity or performance bonuses to all employees.

Career growth can be tough here, honestly
Pros: I've learned a ton about the fitness tech industry and client management as an Account Manager. You get to work with some really smart people. The team culture in the New York City office is pretty solid, everyone's generally supportive.
Cons: Career growth is really slow; there aren't many clear paths up for individual contributors. It's hard to get promoted even with good performance. Management often seems to prioritize external hires over internal development.
Advice to Management: Management needs to create clearer career paths and invest more in internal training and promotion. Don't overlook your current talent for new hires, especially for key roles. Talk to employees about their long-term goals.
