Decent pay for a FinTech startup, but could improve
Pros: Benefits are okay for a FinTech startup in Singapore. They offer solid health insurance, which is a plus. The remote work options are great too, helping with work-life balance for my Software Engineer role.
Cons: The base pay for a Software Engineer isn't super competitive compared to larger companies. Don't expect huge bonuses either. Salary reviews feel a bit slow sometimes.
Advice to Management: Revisit salary bands to be more competitive, especially for experienced roles in FinTech. Speed up the review process for compensation changes.

Decent flexibility for a growing fintech startup
Pros: I really appreciate the remote work option; it's a huge plus. Being able to set my own schedule within reasonable limits helps a lot with personal appointments. For a growing fintech startup, they offer solid flexibility, which isn't always common for tech roles.
Cons: Sometimes there's pressure to be available for meetings across different time zones, which can mess with the whole flexible hours thing. It's not always easy to log off right at 5 PM if there are critical releases or support issues. The WFH policy is great but sometimes means you're always 'on.'
Advice to Management: Try to schedule cross-timezone meetings more considerately, perhaps rotating times or setting clearer boundaries for core working hours, especially for remote team members in different regions.

Decent Pay for a Startup, Benefits Lag
Pros: The base salary for a Research Analyst in the fintech industry here in the Singapore office was actually pretty competitive. It's solid for a fintech startup, especially compared to some local companies.
Cons: Honestly, the benefits package isn't great. There isn't much in terms of health coverage beyond the basic, and things like a proper retirement plan or stock options are missing for most roles. You're really just getting the base salary.
Advice to Management: Management should really look into improving the benefits package. Better health insurance and some form of long-term incentive like stock options would make a huge difference in retaining talent, especially for key roles in equity research.

Hybrid Model is Decent for Investment Research Roles
Pros: The hybrid work option is a definite plus here. Being able to work from home a few days a week really helps manage personal life, which is great for anyone in an Investment Research Analyst role. It's a solid perk for a Singapore office-based FinTech platform.
Cons: While it's hybrid, actual flexible hours are pretty rare. You're still expected to be available during core business hours. It's not a fully remote setup, so don't expect to just jet off without notice.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more true flexible hours beyond just the hybrid model. Trust your employees to manage their time better.

Pay's okay for a startup, benefits could improve
Pros: You get a market-rate base salary for an early-stage fintech startup. The bonus structure for Research Analyst roles is pretty clear, often tied to platform engagement. It's a solid place to learn about the independent research platform industry.
Cons: The benefits package isn't great, especially compared to bigger finance companies. There's no fancy health plan or strong retirement matching. They could definitely do more for employee wellness in the Singapore office.
Advice to Management: Rethink the benefits strategy. Better health and wellness options would really help attract and retain talent in this competitive financial data industry. It's important for a growing company.

Leadership is a mixed bag, depends on your team
Pros: It's a fast-paced FinTech startup, which means you learn a lot quickly. For Software Engineer roles, there's always new tech to explore. The Singapore office has some really smart folks you get to work with daily. Remote work options are also decent.
Cons: Upper management often changes direction, which can make projects hard to finish. Communication from leadership isn't always clear, especially for remote team members. Sometimes it feels like they don't quite understand the development process.
Advice to Management: Try to have clearer, more consistent communication across all levels. Listen more to the individual contributors on the ground. Stability in project goals would really help boost morale and productivity.

Leadership is decent, but has room to grow
Pros: The engineering team is solid; I learned a lot working on our fintech platform. There's a decent focus on cutting-edge tech, which is good for software engineers. The onsite office in Singapore is pretty modern.
Cons: Leadership can be a bit detached, especially for remote employees. Sometimes strategic decisions feel rushed, impacting project stability for the development team. It makes career growth feel a bit unclear.
Advice to Management: Try to engage more with individual contributors and provide clearer long-term vision. Better communication channels would help a lot, especially across different teams.

Okay for learning, but career path unclear
Pros: You get a lot of exposure to different financial markets and industry experts, which is great for a Research Analyst. I learned tons about equity research and various investment strategies. It's a good place to build your foundation in a fintech startup environment.
Cons: Career progression isn't really structured. There aren't many clear promotion tracks for finance roles. It felt like you had to create your own opportunities sometimes, and formal training or mentorship for advancement was pretty minimal. It can be tough if you're looking for a quick climb.
Advice to Management: Try to build out more structured career paths and provide clearer guidance for advancement, especially for those in research and analyst positions. Invest more in training and mentorship programs to help employees grow.

Decent place for a bit, job security is a worry.
Pros: The work as a Research Analyst was actually pretty interesting. You get to dive deep into independent investment research which is cool. The team in the Singapore office was generally supportive, and you learn a lot if you're proactive.
Cons: Job security is a real concern here. There's constant restructuring and it feels like people are always on the chopping block, which is tough for any fintech startup. Compensation isn't always competitive for the demanding hours.
Advice to Management: Work on clearer communication about company direction and strategy. Employees need to feel more secure in their roles, especially for critical functions. Invest more in fair compensation and career pathing.

Decent benefits, but base pay could improve
Pros: The health insurance package is actually pretty solid, especially for a Fintech startup in Singapore. We also get some pretty good perks, which help offset the base pay a little.
Cons: The base pay for a Junior Research Analyst isn't super competitive, even for a startup in the independent research industry. It's hard to get a significant salary bump during annual reviews.
Advice to Management: Please review the salary bands for all investment research roles. It's tough to attract and keep top talent with current compensation levels.
