Hybrid Model Has Its Ups and Downs
Pros: Being an Audit Associate, the hybrid work model here is a decent perk. It's nice to sometimes work remotely from home, especially when you're just doing review tasks. It helps cut down on the commute to the Manila office and makes the long hours in this accounting firm a bit more manageable.
Cons: But let's be real, true work flexibility really varies a lot by your specific client engagement. You're often expected in the office for client meetings or during busy season, even if your tasks could be done remote. It's not a truly flexible Big 4 environment, more like a conditional one.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize hybrid policies across different audit engagements. Give managers more power to approve remote work when it makes sense for their teams.

Work-life balance is a constant struggle
Pros: You get amazing exposure to big clients in the financial services industry right away as an Audit Associate. The learning curve is steep, and you'll pick up a lot of technical skills quickly. My team in the Manila office was usually supportive, which helps during busy times.
Cons: Work-life balance is really tough, especially during busy season; it's common to work 12-14 hour days. Sometimes it feels like there aren't enough resources, so you're constantly overloaded with audit engagements and deadlines. Pay isn't great when you factor in all the overtime.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage workloads and hire more staff, especially for entry-level auditing roles. Employee well-being needs to be prioritized more, not just during slow periods.

Great learning, but career growth can be slow
Pros: You learn a ton fast, especially as an Audit Associate. The exposure to different clients and industries in public accounting is really valuable. It's a solid start for your career in a Big 4 firm.
Cons: Getting promoted beyond senior can take a while. There aren't always enough open roles, especially for junior accounting roles in the Manila office. Sometimes it feels like you're just stuck.
Advice to Management: Management should look into clearer career paths and faster promotion tracks for high-performing staff. It'd help with retention, especially for those in audit engagements.
