The Biotechnologist/Manufacturing Associate is responsible for the manufacture of therapeutic proteins (API) under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) conditions. Level I associates are expected to execute process recipes, follow written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), monitor equipment and processes, independently perform laboratory tasks, including pH, conductivity testing, product sampling, and conduct routine sanitization tasks to maintain facility and equipment. They are expected to demonstrate a strong understanding of cGMP compliance while operating under supervision, and aseptic technique in handling of products and materials. Level II Operators may also be asked to troubleshoot equipment events, initiate deviations, review batch records and logbooks.
Key Responsibilities
Set up, operate equipment, and monitor production processes, including clean-in-place (CIP) and steam-in-place (SIP) operations and report production in written and electronic documents in accordance with good documentation procedures (GDPs), troubleshooting issues and review documentation as appropriate.
Attain qualification for all assigned tasks and maintain individual training plan.
Demonstrate proficiency at laboratory tasks, such as monitoring pH, conductivity, product sampling etc. May train Level 1 Associates on these tasks.
Perform material movements, transfer materials and chemicals in, out, and across the production areas.
Maintain facility and equipment through routine cleaning and sanitization, support 6S programs.
Administrative tasks – attending shift exchange, meetings, sending/receiving emails, participating in projects.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements
High School Diploma or Equivalent minimum; AS/BS preferred;
Preferred area of study: Science related discipline
Prior work experience in a cleanroom, laboratory, other sterile setting is preferred.
Prior experience with gowning or related PPE procedures in a sterile environment is preferred.
Working experience in manufacturing; cGMP setting preferred, and/or some experience as an Associate Level I in bio-pharma industry.
Able to follow documentation procedures for day to day tasks in a regulated industry
Proven logic and decision making abilities, critical thinking skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

Job Description Summary
We are actively recruiting candidates to participate in our 2024 On-site Summer Internship program. This program is roughly 12 weeks in length and will immerse you into the culture and operations of Lonza Portsmouth. This role will work within the Utilities Engineering department and will help execute improvements to help Lonza achieve it’s ambitions in becoming more sustainable by helping to reduce our carbon footprint, to reduce the consumption of energy and water, and/or reduce waste generation. The ideal candidate will have a passion for driving climate action and will have some experience with controls and automation.
The internship program begins Tuesday, May 28, 2024 and ends on Friday, August 16, 2024. Potential interns must be able to commit to at least 40 hours per week throughout the duration of the summer internship.

Our Lonza Portsmouth site is a clinical-to-commercial, multi-product manufacturing facility located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, only 56 miles north of Boston, Massachusetts. The Program Manager is responsible for Managing projects which requires a unique set of skills that are consolidated into the role of Program Manager (PM). Technical understanding of mammalian cell culture manufacturing is ideal, but not required. Prior experience within Biologics and Mammalian Cell Culture projects in research or academic setting is helpful as well.

The Plant Engineer role supports ongoing Lonza operations by providing technical assistance as it relates to manufacturing and process systems. The role acts as a technical resource to operations customers to ensure that equipment and facilities are designed, operated, and maintained to meet production needs. The HVAC Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for preventive maintenance of Air Handlers, Walk-in Cold Room and Freezer systems, periodic inspections of HVAC systems to ensure proper operation and perform daily checks/repairs in compliance with company and departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Individual will work in a fast-paced, safety-oriented, team environment and will maintain records to comply with Good Manufacturing Practice requirements to include detailed documentation of work performed in both electronic and written form and will routinely use the TrackWise electronic Quality Management System. Utilize Building Automation System (BAS) for alarm management, troubleshooting and HVAC building controls.
Level of role (I, II, III, IV) is dependent on candidate relevant experience and skill set.
Shift is 6am-6pm; Sunday- Tuesday and every other Wednesday.
