We have an exciting opportunity for a Biomedical Engineer in the Medical Device Service at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust. You will join a team of engineers who specialise in the management of medical devices and equipment at Rochdale Infirmary and in the local communities. This is a Trust wide post which will require the post holder to occasionally work on other sites across the NCA.

You will be working with a multi-professional Medical Devices Team who deliver engineering, governance and training services across a number of Care Organisations and community teams. This Team welcomes innovative approaches and aims to provide clear development pathways and

Applicants will be expected to have a minimum qualification of HNC in electronics or a clinical engineering higher diploma with a proven track record of maintaining a range of medical equipment used in hospital, with a willingness to gain new skills in a very diverse range of clinical engineering specialities.

Candidates with a limited skill set may be considered for a lower banded post with a development plan to enable movement to the advertised grade. If appointed to the training post the successful candidate will start at AFC Band 4 and progress to AFC Band 5 upon successful completion of their Training Programme.

A brief overview of what your day to day duties will include are listed below:
• Carrying out routine maintenance on a wide range of medical equipment.
• Investigating and repairing medical equipment reported as faulty.
• Updating evidence of work done on an equipment database.
• Driving to community sites to collect, deliver, service and repair medical equipment.
• Assisting with the commissioning of new medical equipment. This includes testing and configuring of new medical equipment before it
is released for clinical use.
• Supporting users of medical equipment to make the best use of these assets. This will include providing specialist advice to users in
their clinical use and application.
• Assisting in the management of risk associated with medical devices; this will include involvement in training, investigations, testing and
repair of medical equipment and acting as the interface between users and other outside agencies / suppliers.
• Working in a team supporting each other in order to achieve the common goal of providing a high-quality service that is agile and flexible and best serves the need of our service users.
• Supporting senior engineers to carry out investigations on medical equipment and devices which are reported as being subject to an
adverse incident or when supplier recall notifications require action.
• Working with external suppliers of medical equipment.
• Working within the organisations policies and local procedures.
• Regularly updating your Knowledge / Skills.

The job plan will start as am 60/40 split between clinical & managerial responsibilities.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Electronics Biomedical Engineer in the Medical Device Service at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust. You will join a team of engineers who specialise in the maintenance and repair of medical devices and equipment.

Applicants will be expected collaborate and build relationships with key clinical and patient areas across the organisation in support of medical equipment management.

The work of the department is very diverse and will give great opportunity for the right applicant to further develop their range of skills across a range specialties through a structured training program.

Applicants should have a proven track record of maintaining a range of medical equipment used in wards and departments of a hospital, with a willingness to gain new skills in a very diverse range of clinical engineering specialties.

Applicants will be expected to have a minimum qualification of HNC in a electronics or a clinical engineering higher diploma.

Successful applicants’ day to day duties will include:
• Supporting users of medical equipment to make the best use of these assets.
• Carry out routine maintains on a wide range of medical equipment
• Investigate and carry out repairs on medical equipment reported as faulty
• Support more senior engineers to carry out investigations on medical equipment and devices which are reported as being subject to an adverse incident or when supplier recall notification require action.
• Carry out testing and configuring of new medical before it can be released for clinical use.
• Operate under ISO9001 procedures will be an advantage.

The main duties of the post holder will include:

To provide specialist advise to users in the clinical use and application of medical devices. Supervise more junior staff assigned to this group. Assist in the management of risk associated with medical equipment; this will include involvement in training, AIR investigations, testing and repair of medical equipment and acting as the interface between users and other outside agencies / suppliers. Specialist responsibilities will also include:
• Working with external supplier of medical equipment
• Updating evidence of work done on an equipment database
• Assisting with the commissioning of new medical equipment
• Working within the organisations policies and local procedures.

• Regularly updating your knowledge / Skills.

The Medical Device Service support users of medical equipment across all of our hospital sites within the Northern Care Alliance.

Main duties:

You will have a key role in supporting the departments responsibility for the maintenance, repair and sub-contractor management of Medical equipment. This will Include first line support to users of Medical equipment to Optimise systems up time to gain maximum use of Medical equipment.

Ideally, you will possess a minimum of HNC in Electronics and Clinical engineering and have relevant experience since qualifying in the field of Medical Electronics. Knowledge in the application and repair on a wide range of Medical equipment used in a hospital and community is essential although some specific training will be provided.

Consideration may be given to applicants will reduced knowledge and skills, who follow a personnel development program on a reduced grade.

The post holder will provide specialist technical knowledge for the implementation and delivery of a long-term operational plan for cost effective and efficient management and deployment of safe medical devices across the Care organisations. You will work with your own caseload with full support of your Team Leader. Your caseload will be varied to your skills and training requirements. It will have a variety of patients with health and social care needs. This can vary from simple and complex patient care to looking after people at the end of their lives who wish to remain at home. Taking on the role of co-ordinator, you will support your Ward Manager, junior staff, manage patient flow and be responsible for patient care.

The successful candidate for this middle grade (registrar / specialty trainee level) post will work as part of the ENT team at Salford Royal Hospital. Our ENT department is a tertiary unit offering general ENT in addition to: voice and airway, specialist rhinology, specialist otology and anterior and lateral skull base.

The 12-month post holder will co-lead the undergraduate ENT teaching and support the supervision of medical students. This involves taking on the primary role of facilitating the medical students’ week in Otolaryngology through organising timetables for theatres and clinic exposure. Teaching involves both didactic and small group/bedside teaching with clinical skills development. The department can help the candidate during their 12 months to develop other skills (both clinical and non-clinical) which can be discussed with their educational supervisor. When medical students are not rotating through the department, the post holder will be timetabled clinical activity.



The post would provide an excellent opportunity for a potential ENT trainee looking to increase their exposure in ENT or develop their CV in order to facilitate their entry to specialty training or for a more senior trainee wishing to consolidate their experience.

The post holder will have the opportunity to co-lead the undergraduate ENT teaching and support the supervision of medical students. There will be ample opportunities in both posts to develop skills across the specialty, both clinical and surgical skills. The duties also include being part of the middle grade on call rota.

Duties of the post – Clinical

1) Participate with the daily care of all ENT in-patients including ward rounds, reviewing inpatient referrals and ongoing review of inpatients.

2) Clinical supervision of foundation and core trainees on the team.

3) Clinical sessions would be scheduled on a job plan, ensuring ample opportunity for both operative and clinical training on non-teaching weeks. This would be agreed once appointed and can be modified to accommodate specific training and educational requirements of the successful applicant.

Teaching, Research & Governance: an active involvement in the research, education and governance programmes would be expected. This would include leading the teaching of medical undergraduates and supervising foundation and core surgical trainees.

On call: the successful candidate will be required to participate in the on-call middle grade rota
