Develop an integrated role surrounding the management of vitreo-retinal ophthalmology patients and their families.

The duties involved in the job are as follows.

This is a fantastic opportunity for two staff nurses with an interest in ophthalmology to work in the Medical Retina Service at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team assessing and caring for patients in the Medical Retina outpatient department at the main branch of Moorfields at City Road.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the North Directorate at Moorfields Eye Hospital working at our Bedford Hospital Site. This will be a 6-month fixed term position to support the team through operational changes that are due to occur on the site. There might be potential for this contract to extend to 12-months.

We are looking for an experienced manager to work within a busy and dynamic multidisciplinary team overseeing the Bedford Satellite Site within the North Division at Moorfields.



You will be responsible for the day to day operational management for these sites and the line management of the satellite administrative teams and therefore, an understanding of HR management and people management skills are essential to the role. You will also be involved in supporting the administrative team at Bedford in transitioning to Moorfields Electronic Systems from Bedford Hospital systems.

You will be able to work effectively and proactively with team off-site, requiring excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as the post holder is expected to liaise effectively and sensitively with a wide range of people, including senior management, clinicians, patients and external stakeholders.

MAIN RESPONSIBILTITES

Operational management

• To co-ordinate the smooth running of outpatient clinics

• To ensure a quality, patient focused administrative and reception function is in place to support the clinicians within the services

• To ensure that all outpatient clinic and admissions administrative staff are aware of and compliant with relevant procedures and targets, including RTT and Trust Access Policy

• To proactively manage the workload of the outpatient and admissions administrative team to ensure Trust targets are achieved

• To monitor capacity requirements for all clinics and surgery, ensuring that capacity issues are highlighted as soon as possible, and working with the Deputy General Manager to address these issues where necessary

• To ensure that all outpatient reception staff are collecting and inputting ethnic coding and up to date patient demographic details on to PAS and proactively promoting and collecting the FFT cards on the day of the patients attendance

• To ensure that outpatient clerical teams ‘cash up’ clinics within 24 hours of the clinic taking place

• To attend relevant meetings, representing the outpatient and admissions administrative support service, for the purpose of disseminating information to the staff and contribution to discussions regarding the maintenance and improvement of the services provided


• To ensure that the highest standards of customer care are maintained at all times, working with key stakeholders to ensure a consistent and effective training and monitoring mechanism is in place for the achievement of this

• To work with the Assistant Divisional Manager to regularly review the service provided to patients and ensure that it is both appropriate and of the highest quality

• To regularly engage with matrons, charge nurses/sisters, service directors and other consultants to ensure that the department is meeting their needs

• To liaise with the services to address problems with outpatient clinics such as late finishing, overbooking and capacity issues, escalating to the Deputy General Manager where appropriate

• To participate in Trust and area wide programmes that contributes to the modernisation of patient services

• To initiate and implement new ways of working to standards as directed by the senior management team

• To lead in the gathering and collation of outpatient audit data

• To ensure department processes support the delivery of 18 weeks and other key Trust objectives relating to patient care and experience

• To assist with coordinating requested ad-hoc clinics and additional theatre sessions ensuring logistics and resources are in place prior to set up

• To order equipment for the clinical teams and ensure faulty equipment is repaired

• To assist the Deputy General Manager to ensure that health and safety standards are maintained within the department at all times and notify the appropriate manager or representative for any action required

• To hold the departmental risk register and be responsible for regular risk assessments and take action when required

• To ensure the department and individuals are compliant with Health & Safety legislation, completing incident forms and developing action plans as appropriate to eliminate or reduce risks, forwarding documentation to appropriate departments in a timely manner


Human Resource Management

• To ensure all staff have an annual appraisal and that individuals’ development needs are identified and addressed

• To ensure all staff are compliant with mandatory training requirements



• To take on full line management responsibilities including recruitment, induction, appraisal, development and retention of staff, 1:1 meetings, as well as managing sickness and absence, disciplinary and performance issues that may arise

• To ensure absence and leave is accurately recorded for the department and submitted to the finance department monthly

• To ensure that the highest quality of service is provided in each area at all times through the regular review of staffing structures, deployment, processes and workload allocation


• To motivate and support staff so that they understand the objectives of the service within which they work and are able to maximise their contribution to the highest standard of patient care

• To encourage a teamwork approach and ensure that communication takes place within departments to ensure that staff feel involved and receive information regarding all matters affecting themselves, their department and Trust as a whole

• To ensure there is effective communication both up and down the management structure

• To ensure regular team meetings are held so that staff are aware of the current issues/updates within the Trust and/or the directorate and to allow promotion of positive staff engagement






Patient Experience

• To lead on resolving complaints and concerns from patients, staff, suppliers, other internal and external service providers and partner organisations; resolving locally where possible, and where this is not possible to ensure the appropriate process is followed and documented

• To proactively manage incident reporting, ensuring that the team feel confident in raising incidents and that these are effectively investigated, managed and actioned

• To take an active role in initiatives designed to improve services provided to patients e.g. patient experience, privacy & dignity

• To ensure the use of feedback tools within services is undertaken, also ensuring internal targets are met

• To promote the Friends and Family test and ensuring that the target response rate is met by the team

Finance

• To work with the Deputy General Manager and Finance Manager to ensure budgets are up to date and accurate, identify changes to budgets as required

• To be responsible for validation and signing of relevant bank and agency time sheets

• To support the directorate with the CIP targets, ensuring that the team are working towards meeting these targets

• To ensure that pay and non-pay spend within the directorate is sensibly managed and within budget

• To contribute to the annual business plan, ensuring staff involvement in line with Trust objectives

• To actively promote and support the directorate with its annual activity plan, ensuring plan is met across all sites


Other duties and responsibilities

• To work with the Deputy General Manager to implement policies and procedures in line with national guidance, Trust and local requirements

WORKING PATTERN

37.5 hours per week between 0800 -2000 Monday to Saturday based on a roster system

The Electro-Biomedical Department (EBME) is responsible for delivering complete medical equipment management on behalf of the Trust to include City Road and all Moorfields outreach sites. The post holder will operationally manage the site based EBME team, which delivers medical equipment management, maintenance and repairs and to organise and participate in a programme of outreach site visits to comply with the Trusts Medical devices policy. To contribute to the operation and development of the department at a Trust wide level on matters relating to medical equipment management.

1. The post is the most senior engineer within the Medical Technology department and has day to day operational responsibility for delivering service and support to the Trust.

2. Responsible for the daily management of the Medical Technology engineering team, supervise, monitoring performance of six senior engineers. This includes recruitment, annual appraisals, training and development.

9. Manage contracted out maintenance services for medical technology and be responsible for standards achieved. Work alongside the Head of EBME to co-ordinate contract placement and renewal. Determine individual technology servicing plans – service provider, how often and at what cost.

10. Support R&D evaluation of new ophthalmic devices, including devices which fail to comply fully with existing regulations or standards are inspected, tested and evaluated. Maintain an accurate record of loans/trials/rentals of medical technology.

11. Provide monthly, periodic and yearly operational reports to the head of EBME.

12. Authorised to approve & receipt financial Orders within delegated limits for Medical Technology, ensuring compliance with Trust’s Standing Orders.

13. Represent Medical Technology Department in various Committees Provide reports and technical expertise.

14. Deputy when Head of EBME is away.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in the Medical Retina & Leading the Urgent Care Service in the North Divisions (Northwick Park & Ealing Site)

The post holder will be responsible for the ongoing care and management of Medical Retina patients within the trust. The successful candidate will be expected to provide training for junior doctors and to support the further development of the Allied Health Care Professionals within the service.

Candidates should have completed their Specialist Training in Ophthalmology, have their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent, or be within six months of their CCT date. Candidates are required to be in possession of the Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists or equivalent. The holder of this post is required to be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice. The successful candidate should have completed at least a year of subspecialty Medical Retina fellowship training.

The post is located between Moorfields Eye Hospital at Ealing Hospital and Moorfields Eye Centre at Northwick Park Hospital. There are ten programmed activities PA’s.

Whilst this is a general medical retina job, the post holder will have responsibilities for retinal therapies including theatres and the injection services across the trust. The postholder will participate in the medical retina and uveitis on-call rota which is a 1:25 rota currently and includes weekdays and weekends.

A provisional timetable is enclosed, but this will be subject to change as the Moorfields unit develops and grows. In particular, there is increasing emphasis nationally on extending the opening times of hospitals into the evenings, weekends and clinic in the community. Pre-registration optometrists gain experience in diagnostic, pre- & post- operative, paediatric and routine refraction, contact lenses, low vision assessment, spectacle dispensing and automated visual field analysis.

Every case is discussed with one of the experienced senior members of the department. Each pre-reg is encouraged to undertake increasingly complex work as the year progresses and will work as part of a team alongside other professional staff.

We organise regular sessions for the pre-reg’s to undertake full routine eye examinations on patients referred for VDU assessments in the hospital, and also in a community practice.

Tutorials and mock exams are arranged throughout the year. Observations in clinics include Glaucoma, A&E, General Ophthalmology, Medical Retina, Strabismus, and the Orthoptic department. All our staff are welcome to attend the hospital’s evening lectures as well as the Optometry Department’s weekly teaching.

• Support and guide hiring managers through the recruitment process, adopting a pro-active stance in identifying improvements to recruitment adverts, job descriptions, person specifications and other recruitment material.
• Revise and update recruitment documentation where appropriate and ensure that they are in accordance with employment legislation, NHS terms and conditions of service and Trust branding.
• Ensure all recruitment campaigns are implemented within the Home Office guidelines for safer recruitment and to comply with our sponsorship licence requirements.
• Draft, amend and guide managers in developing captive and creative adverts.
• Liaise with agencies in placing external adverts in the relevant publication/journal, ensuring deadlines are met and in accordance with Trust branding.
• Attend and be a member of interview panels when required and appropriate, providing recruiting managers with guidance, support, and advice.
• Quality assure offer letters and contracts.
• Promote equal opportunities and good employment practice in employment and recruitment practices.
• Be responsible for and take ownership for the completion of all necessary paperwork relating to Certificates of Sponsorship as required, providing advice and guidance where required, ensuring that new starters have the correct Home Office approval and paperwork to work.
• Provide expert advice (including the maintenance of trust policy and procedure) on the application of certificates of sponsorship, visas and registration requirements in accordance with Trust policy and appropriate legislation.
• Ensure all pre-employment checks have been undertaken (including checking and verifying documentation for DBS) and that all documentation is in place for the new starter to commence work.
• Lead on designated projects such as recruitment fairs, Capital Nurse, international recruitment, redeployment scheme, internal transfer, and Project Search.

Operational
• Ensure all hiring is undertaken within frameworks of local and national & CQC compliance.
• Work with managers and HRBPs to ensure that roles are recruited to in a timely manner in line with KPIs.
• To provide advice to managers on the legislation relating to applications and the impact of this on individual recruitment exercises.
• To provide an escalation point for queries.
• To work with the Strategic Resourcing Lead to monitor the recruitment pipeline tracker and ensure that recruitment processes are delivered within KPI.
• Provide monthly KPI data and ad hoc reports when required.
• Ensure proactive recruitment updates are provided to recruiting managers, demonstrating delivery to internal standards.
• Ensure that the department customer service standards are applied.
• Conduct regular compliance checks.

Team Management
• Supervise a team of recruitment officers and assistants and work collaboratively with the Strategic Resourcing Lead in relation to the recruitment and development of staff.
• Conduct regular 121’s with team including reviews of workloads.
• Maintain team helpdesk rota.
• Deputise for the Strategic Resourcing Lead when required.

We are based at Potters Bar Community Hospital , Barnet Road , Potters Bar, EN6 2RY.

This post is working between theatre and outpatients service, by which you can gain experience of theatre and different specialist clinics like cataract , medical retina , pre-assessment , glaucoma , virtual clinics .







You will carry out and assist with specific ophthalmic procedures and support the clinic and day care staff, working as part of a multi- disciplinary team.

We support patients from various specialties such as Glaucoma , Medical Retina , Cataract, Primary care and theatre.

You must be of reliable character, professional and demonstrate the ability to take instruction from your seniors. You will need to be flexible and will need to rotate within the department where you will be expected to assist the nursing staff. You will support both patients in clinic and the multi disciplinary team and be able to work independently with minimal support.

This post is based at our Potters Bar satellite site.

Clinical and Patient Care


• To support qualified staff in the assessment of health needs, planning, delivery and evaluation of care for a number of individuals or groups of patients, including clinical risk assessment


• To exercise an agreed degree of professional autonomy and make judgements and decisions in order to satisfy the expectations and demands of the job.


• To assist in maintaining record charts such as nursing observation, weight, temperature, pulse and respirations


• To undertake clinical work and related tasks as delegated by qualified nursing staff.


• To assist registered staff in the implementation of individual nursing care plans and the implementation of the patient care pathways.


• To liaise effectively with all stakeholders in the care process, including carers and relatives, aspiring to provide an effective, seamless and integrated service to patients.


• To attain the competencies of Visual Acuity, eye pressure measurement, instillation of eye drops under the supervision and guidance of the qualified staff nurse, technical skills of OCT, HRT, auto-refraction , OPTOS, FFA scan and visual fields having followed the Trusts required protocol. This list is not exhaustive but gives an outline of the core competency skills that are required in this role in the clinic environment.


• To act as chaperon in intravitreal injection and theatre.


• To assist with the monitoring of equipment and stocks as required.
