An IRC is a secure building that holds detained individuals (residents) who are held prior to their removal from the United Kingdom or for nationality and identification purposes.

There are currently 6 IRCs in England and 1 in Scotland, with 2 more IRCs planned to open in England in the near future.

All IRCs are overseen by the Home Office’s Immigration Enforcement directorate and are contracted out to private companies known as IRC Suppliers who ensure all aspects of the IRC are run safely and securely within rules and legislation.

The role of the Detention Engagement Team based onsite is to interact with residents face-to-face on behalf of Home Office caseworkers. They focus on communicating and engaging with residents, helping them to understand their cases and detention.

The Heathrow IRCs are made up of two sites, Colnbrook IRC and Harmondsworth IRC both located on the Colnbrook Bypass close to Heathrow airport.

• Harmondsworth can hold up to 658 male residents. It is one of the most secure IRCs in the UK and is built similarly to a prison has a regime that provides as much freedom as possible.

• Colnbrook can hold 312 male residents. Within Colnbrook is a female accommodation unit. This facility provides accommodation of 6 rooms for females prior to their removal from the UK, with facilities separate to the male population of Colnbrook.

The Detention Engagement Team operate within the IRCs. We use face-to-face interaction to build relationships with residents and provide an important on-site link between residents and their case working teams. We engage with on-site healthcare suppliers and the IRC Supplier, to ensure that vulnerability issues are identified and managed effectively at the earliest opportunity.

Key responsibilities

Duties include (but are not limited to):

• Conducting face-to-face engagements with residents, this includes a Home Office induction, service of official paperwork, follow up engagement, conducting assessments related to modern slavery and asylum screening interviews.

• Discussing options with residents, including returning to their country of origin and outlining the consequences of non-compliance.

• Identifying indicators of vulnerability, ensuring that they are recorded and managed in-line with policy and attend case conference meetings.

• Engaging with IRC suppliers on a regular basis.

• Giving case updates to residents and managing your own portfolio of residents and associated workflow.

• Flagging issues appropriately and in a timely manner to management or appropriate department.

• Recording all interactions on Home Office IT systems in an accurate and timely manner and providing feedback to caseworkers.

• Actively contributing towards the compiling of management reports.

• Undertaking general office administration duties as part of your role and to assist in the successful running of the DET. This includes inbox management and answering phone calls.

As these roles include working on weekends, public holidays, your contract will benefit from Home Office’s Annualised Hours Agreement (AHA).

This means you will receive an additional payment each month based the hours that fall under this agreement and your monthly pay will be the same each month unless your AHA changes.

**This role may potentially move to include nights shifts, and you would be required to then work night shifts if required, at which point the AHW allowance would increase**.

The AHA is reviewed annually and may increase or decrease depending on the needs of the department.

Working hours

The Detention Engagement Team (DET) work on a roster system to cover hours of DET operation which is based on site at Heathrow IRCs.

Part time AHW shift working patterns are available, which will cover a full range of shifts including weekends, nights and bank holidays.

The hours of operation where team members are on site are:

• Weekdays 07.30 to 19:30 and 21:30 where required.
• Weekends and public holidays 09.00 to 17.00.

As part of Adobe's Legal Compliance team, the Intern will learn hands-on experience in a wide variety of Compliance projects. Financial Institution Interns will be assigned to the Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection (DCP).  Interns will work directly on teams with experienced FDIC employees to evaluate FDIC-insured institutions’ compliance with fair lending and consumer protection laws and regulations.  These teams are responsible for assessing financial institutions to determine whether they are maintaining effective controls and procedures, managing their institutions effectively, and complying with all applicable laws and regulations, including those relating to consumer protection, privacy, community reinvestment, and fair lending. 

Under the direction and supervision of an Examiner-in-Charge or higher grade team member, the incumbent will participate in and/or independently perform the following:

- Assesses the adequacy and determines the strength of the Compliance Management System (senior management oversight; compliance program, including he elements of policies, monitoring, and training; and audit procedures) to ensure ongoing compliance as related to the particular regulation under review. Conducts reviews and assessments of the following:

• Examines initial disclosures, periodic statements, advertisements, and other information to evaluate procedures and reviews for compliance with applicable regulations.
• Examines closed-end non-real estate credit transactions for compliance with applicable regulations.
• Reviews the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act loan application register for accuracy and assesses the bank's overall reporting procedures.
• Reviews adverse action notices for compliance, and to gain a cursory exposure to applicable lending-related regulations.
• Examines a sample of residential, consumer, commercial and agricultural files to determine compliance.
• Reviews applicable regulations and examination manual to become informed about the CRA.

- Participates in discussing the overall examination process including evaluating the bank's Compliance Management System (senior management oversight; compliance program, including the elements of polices, monitoring, and training; and audit procedures). Ask questions to gain clarification and understanding of examination policies and procedures.

- Observes the interaction between the FDIC and Bank personnel.

- Responds to questions from other examiners regarding his/her section of the Report of Examination.

- Reviews the CRA of an institution and participates in discussions for assigning its rating.

- Prepares a summary of each performance factor describing why rating was assigned.

- With the assistance of an experienced examiner, participates in meetings as appropriate.

- After the meeting, asks questions and discusses exam findings with examiner-in charge or higher graded team member.

The Associate General Counsel International Law Practice Group:

• Provides leadership of the International Law Practice Group. Provides oversight, legal advice and counsel concerning all NASA issues and activities involving international law and transactions with foreign government entities and international organizations, including International Space Station (ISS) cooperation issues and follow-on launch systems.
• Handles matters of special interest to the Agency and maintaining close liaison with Executive Branch agencies, including the White House National Security Council, Office of Management Budget, and Office of Science and Technology Policy, as well as the Departments of State, Defense, and Justice, Federal Aviation Agency, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency, and other agencies.
• Drafts and reviews proposed legislation, Executive Orders, and regulations affecting NASA within assigned areas of responsibility.
• Maintains currency with the body of treaty, statutory, regulatory, and court-made requirements relating to areas of responsibility and prepares specific recommendations for proposed changes in statutes, regulations, and policies; provides legal advice and counsel regarding interpretation of statutes and international agreements.
• Maintains familiarity with issues and provides assistance to NASA management and attorneys involved in resolving questions of international law, including space law, of interest to the Agency.
• Participates in interagency committees, working groups, and task forces dealing with international issues.
• Manages NASA legal support for drafting, negotiating, and concluding agreements with international partners, including foreign governments, space agencies, companies, academic institutions, and international organizations.

Financial Institution Interns (FII) will be assigned to the Division of Risk Management Supervision (RMS).  Interns will work directly on teams of experienced FDIC employees to evaluate bank operations, business planning, and risk management strategies. These teams are responsible for assessing financial institutions to determine whether they are following safe and sound banking practices, maintaining effective internal controls and procedures, managing their institutions effectively, and complying with all applicable laws and regulations. Under the direction and supervision of an Examiner or Assistant Examiner of higher grade, interns may:

• Review and reconcile consolidated reports of condition and income.
• Review accounts for overdrafts, prepaid expenses, and other miscellaneous assets.
• Assist in assessing the adequacy of fidelity and other indemnity insurance coverage.
• Assist in evaluating the adequacy of the insured depository institution procedures and internal routine controls.
• Assist in the preparation of information requisite to a thorough analysis of the earnings of an institution.
• Prepare drafts of schedules, exhibits, and comments for inclusion in the completed report of examination.
• Conduct audit test checks on income and expense accounts, computing and reconciling Capital Accounts and reconciling cash.
• Review liquidity including the analysis of fluctuations in loans, securities, deposits, and borrowings.
• Verify securities and other investments borrowings and other liabilities, and assigned collateral, pledged assets, and safe keeping items.
• Observe the interaction between the FDIC and Bank management.
