DayOne: Pay is Decent for a Startup, Benefits are Fine
Pros: The health insurance is surprisingly good for an early-stage VC firm. We get solid PTO and the remote work flexibility is a huge plus, especially as an Operations Associate. It makes remote from Austin manageable.
Cons: Salary definitely isn't top-tier when you think about tech industry compensation. Don't expect big bonuses or a significant equity package here. It's just not competitive with larger companies.
Advice to Management: Consider benchmarking salaries against the broader tech industry compensation, not just other early-stage VC firms. Adding performance-based bonuses or phantom equity could really help with retention and attracting top talent.

Remote work is good, but hours can be long.
Pros: I really appreciate the remote work setup. Being able to WFH from Texas is a huge plus. They're good about unlimited PTO, and people actually use it sometimes, which helps with burnout.
Cons: As a Software Engineer, the project deadlines can be super intense. We often pull 50+ hour weeks, especially before a big release. There's an expectation to be always 'on' in this tech industry startup.
Advice to Management: Try to set more realistic project timelines for engineering teams. Encourage managers to really push for 40-hour weeks for remote employees.

Solid Vibe, But Work Can Be Intense
Pros: The people here are genuinely great. Everyone's super collaborative, which is awesome as a Software Engineer. There's a strong sense of mission and connection within the team, especially when we're in the San Francisco office.
Cons: Sometimes the 'startup energy' pushes into really long hours. It's tough to maintain work-life balance in this kind of tech startup environment. The pressure to deliver on the SaaS product can get pretty high.
Advice to Management: Management should really emphasize protecting engineers' time. Burnout is a real concern when pushing for aggressive deadlines. Encourage proper breaks and disconnecting, even with our hybrid model.
