Okay culture, but it's a big corporate place.
Pros: The teams I worked with in the software engineering department were generally supportive. There's a decent focus on professional development if you seek it out. Plus, the hybrid work model was a big plus for some work-life balance.
Cons: The overall company culture can feel pretty slow and bureaucratic. Decisions for our energy industry projects took ages, which was frustrating. It often felt like individual contributions weren't always recognized in such a large global company.
Advice to Management: Try to empower teams more and speed up decision-making processes, especially for new tech initiatives. Better recognition for individual efforts within this large organization would also help morale.

Decent pay, but work-life balance needs work
Pros: The pay and benefits are pretty competitive for the oil and gas industry. As a Project Engineer in the Houston office, I felt the compensation was fair. There's good job security being with a large, established corporate company like SLB.
Cons: Work-life balance here is tough. Expect long weeks, sometimes 50-60 hours, especially if you're involved in project deadlines. It's hard to find good work flexibility, even in a hybrid setup.
Advice to Management: Management should really look into better resource allocation for Project Engineer roles. It would help prevent burnout and improve the work-life balance across the board. More realistic project timelines would be a game-changer.

Culture is evolving, but still has a way to go
Pros: The training programs for new hires are really solid; you learn a ton about oilfield operations. There's a decent sense of camaraderie on project teams, which helps when you're working long hours. You get to see a lot of the world.
Cons: The corporate culture can feel pretty hierarchical and slow to change. Work-life balance for many on-site roles, especially Field Engineers, isn't great. Sometimes it feels like there's a disconnect between different departments.
Advice to Management: Keep pushing for more modern management practices and better work-life balance initiatives for field-based employees. Focus on internal communication to bridge gaps between corporate and operational teams. Empower managers to make decisions faster.
