Hybrid Model is Okay, But Could Be Better
Pros: The biggest perk is the hybrid work model. As a Financial Analyst, I really appreciated the few WFH days each week. It helped manage the commute to the New York City office, which is a major time-saver in financial services.
Cons: Still, it feels like there's always pressure to come into the big corporate bank more than the stated hybrid days. The flexibility can feel inconsistent between teams, which is tough. Sometimes you're just stuck.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize the hybrid model across departments. Less pressure to be in the office beyond the agreed-upon days would really help improve morale for corporate banking employees.

Job Security Is Decent, But Watch Out
Pros: It's a big bank, so you feel pretty stable compared to startups or smaller companies. As an Associate Analyst, I felt my day-to-day role was secure as long as I performed. Pay is solid for financial services, and benefits are decent.
Cons: There's always talk about restructuring or layoffs, especially across the corporate divisions. It makes you feel a bit on edge sometimes, even if your specific team feels secure. It's just the nature of working at a global financial institution.
Advice to Management: Focus on communicating long-term strategic plans more clearly to all employees, not just leadership. It would help ease concerns about job security and future direction for people like us in junior roles.

Okay for starting, tough to move up.
Pros: As an Associate Analyst, I got solid foundational experience in financial services. There's good exposure to different areas in the New York City office, which helps you understand the bigger picture of a large corporate bank. The initial training programs for new hires are decent.
Cons: Career growth is pretty slow, especially for junior finance roles. Internal mobility can be a real struggle; it often feels like you're stuck unless your manager advocates hard. Promotions don't come easily here, even after putting in long hours.
Advice to Management: Improve internal promotion paths and make it easier for employees to explore different departments. Invest more in mid-level development and mentorship programs.

Okay for entry-level, then it slows
Pros: You learn a ton early on as a junior financial analyst. It's a solid start for anyone new to financial services, especially in the New York City office. Lots of training programs help you grasp the basics quickly.
Cons: Career growth really plateaus after a couple of years. Internal mobility is hard; you often need to jump teams or even companies for analyst roles to get a real promotion. There's not much clear path for advancement without serious networking.
Advice to Management: Make internal promotions and career paths more transparent. Help managers identify and develop talent beyond just the first few years. It'd boost morale and retention in this big corporate bank.

Leadership is a mixed bag, depends on your team
Pros: Some senior managers at Citi really know their stuff, especially in the corporate finance divisions. You can learn a lot from direct reports who've been in the financial services industry for years. They're good at guiding new analysts.
Cons: There's a real lack of consistent leadership across departments in the New York City office. Upper management often feels out of touch with day-to-day operations, especially for junior roles like a Financial Analyst. It can be tough to get clear direction.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize leadership training and communication across different groups in this global financial institution. More clear, consistent communication from the top would really help guide individual teams and entry-level positions.

Analyst growth can be tough at Citi
Pros: You definitely learn a ton about the financial services industry in a big corporate environment like Citi. There are good opportunities to get foundational experience, especially for entry-level analyst roles. Networking can help if you're proactive.
Cons: Career growth felt really slow for my Analyst role in the New York City office. It's hard to move up or switch teams; internal mobility isn't always encouraged or clear. You often feel stuck in your current position.
Advice to Management: Make internal career paths clearer for employees, especially for core roles. Support cross-departmental moves more.

Leadership is a Mixed Bag at This Big Bank
Pros: There are definitely some strong individual leaders at Citi, especially if you land on a good team in the capital markets division. They can be really supportive and actually care about your career growth. You get to learn a lot from experienced folks, which is good for junior finance roles.
Cons: But, leadership overall can feel really disconnected from the ground level. There's a lot of micromanagement in some departments, making it tough to feel trusted. Decision-making at this large corporate bank often feels slow and top-down, especially in the New York City office.
Advice to Management: Management needs to empower mid-level leaders more and really listen to feedback from junior staff. Improve communication from the top down and foster a less bureaucratic environment.

Hybrid model is okay, but less flexible now.
Pros: The hybrid model for Associate Analyst roles was good at first. You get some days remote, which helps. It was decent for my work-life balance in the New York City office.
Cons: Lately, though, there's more pressure to be onsite. It feels like the company is pulling back on true work flexibility, especially in financial services. It's getting tough to manage personal appointments.
Advice to Management: Don't ignore how much flexibility matters. It's a big deal for attracting and keeping talent, especially in a competitive industry like financial services. Be clear about expectations.

Tough Hours but Solid Career Start at Citi
Pros: For a large corporate bank, the pay and benefits are quite competitive. They offer decent healthcare options. I appreciated the hybrid model initially, which provided some work flexibility.
Cons: Work-life balance as a Financial Analyst in investment banking is brutal. Expect 60-70 hour weeks, especially in the New York City office. It's tough to make plans outside of work, even with the hybrid setup.
Advice to Management: Management needs to seriously consider how to reduce burnout for junior staff. More support or better staffing could help.

Leadership Quality Varies Greatly at Citi
Pros: Some individual team leads are genuinely great mentors, especially in our NYC office. As an Associate Financial Analyst, I've had good support for project deadlines. You get exposure to a lot of high-level financial services operations.
Cons: Upper management often feels out of touch with the day-to-day work, which is tough. Strategic direction from this large corporate bank can be unclear, making it hard for teams. There's a noticeable disconnect between different departments.
Advice to Management: Try to ensure senior leadership communicates more clearly with junior staff across the organization. Break down those corporate silos for better operational efficiency. Invest more in leadership training for mid-level managers to bridge the gap.
