The Opportunity:

This Research Associate position will contribute to the within InlightenUs project the Institute for Micro and Nano Systems at the University of Edinburgh, which is funded by EPSRC and in collaboration with colleagues at the Queen Mary, Nottingham and Southampton Universities.

This role is UE07 and is available on a fixed-term basis until 30 November 2025.

The Department of Computer Science seeks to employ a senior researcher to work on a project in the area of Concurrent, Distributed and Quantum Programming (UKRI/EPSRC/ERC), under the direction of PI Professor Nobuko Yoshida. The post is full-time, fixed term position, tenable immediately, and will be available until the end of March 2026, subject to satisfactory review. The position will be based within the Department’s offices in central Oxford.

The aims of the projects are:
- To develop theory of session types (including mechanisation by, e.g. Coq and Isabelle, automata theory, verification, security analysis, model checking, process algebra, semantics, and logic)
- To design and implement programming languages and systems with session types; OR
- To study quantum computing using programming languages or concurrency theory techniques

A key objective is either to design and implement programming API or verification tools for concurrent and distributed systems and/or investigate theory of session types; or to study quantum computing using session types or concurrency theory.

As a researcher on this project, you will be expected to lead research projects you are working on. You will work collaboratively with the PIs and other members of the research team on the project, as well as independently leading and developing their own body of research in line with the project’s aims. Candidates will be expected to have a PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics and/or Engineering; and/or relevant research experience. Willingness to collaborate with others and work effectively as a member of a team is essential.

Whilst the role is a Grade 8 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at Grade 7 with a title of “Research Associate” (Grade 7) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly. Summary of the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic researcher with a background in cell biology and/or genetics to join a world-leading team of researchers to study the genetic basis of diabetes and related conditions.



The successful applicant will be working alongside Dr Elisa De Franco in the world leading Exeter diabetes genetics group to further our understanding of known and novel genetic causes of neonatal diabetes. Through the investigation of genome sequencing data of individuals born with diabetes, the Exeter team has discovered >20 genes that cause the disease and more candidate genes are being investigated. The position will involve generation and analysis of genomic data in patients and cellular models to define the role played by these genes in beta cell function and development. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with a world leading team of bioinformaticians, molecular geneticists and clinicians working in monogenic diabetes and polygenic diabetes (http://www.exeter.ac.uk/diabetes/).



About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.



The successful applicant will possess a relevant PhD (or be nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. ESRC Project: Powering Up Coastal Economies: Path Creation in Low Carbon and Renewable Energies

Applications are invited for two twenty-four month full-time Research Fellows positions on the above research project which is being led by Professor Peter Sunley, in the Department of Geography and Environmental Science, University of Southampton. The post will work closely with the other investigators: Professors Stuart Dawley and Danny MacKinnon (Geography and CURDS, Newcastle), and Professor Jane Wills (Geography, Exeter). The aim of the project is to investigate and compare the regional development paths of low carbon energy sectors in four coastal regions of the UK, and explore the regional outcomes of energy transitions.

About you

You will have completed, or be close to completing, a PhD in Economic Geography, business, economics or a closely-related field, and you will have shown your top research capabilities. You will have demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills, and will also have excellent communication skills, alongside a collaborative approach.

Open to researchers from around the world and from diverse backgrounds, we are looking for researchers who have the potential to become influential leaders in economic geography, and energy transitions and their regional outcomes.

A fantastic opportunity has just become available at Band 6 level for an experienced nurse to become part of the Research Nursing Team at the National Institute for Health Research UCLH Clinical Research Facility (CRF). The research nursing team in the CRF provide exceptional specialist nursing care to a wide variety of patients taking part in early phase clinical trials of experimental cancer and medicine treatments. This includes First-in-Human medicines and experimental early phase treatments in Oncology, Haematology, Neurology, Medicine and Vaccine studies.

The NIHR UCLH Clinical Research Facility UCLH is a well-established Clinical Research Facility (CRF) covering two sites. The Leonard Wolfson Experimental Neurology Centre is a dedicated neuroscience experimental medicine facility at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) at Queen Square (QS); and the NIHR UCLH Clinical Research Facility is a comprehensive Cancer and Medical research facility in Tottenham Court Road.

The post holder will be required to work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines, taking responsibility for the coordination and support of clinical trials within the CRF. Responsibilities include coordinating the care of patients on trials, collecting and preparing biological samples, administering experimental agents, monitoring expected and unexpected side effects of drugs and other treatment modalities, and providing patient/carer education. The post holder will be expected to develop specialized skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of clinical trials, therapies, and relevant disease types. The post holder must have sufficient skills to enable patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patient’s advocate.

The post holder will also be responsible for liaising with drug companies and other study sponsors as required, ensuring the accurate collection and submission of data in line with study protocols and research regulations, deputizing for the Senior Research Nurses in their absence, and supporting and developing new members of the CRF team.

The CRF core working hours are between 09:00 and 17:00; however, some evening, night, and weekend work may be required at times.

This project will apply a high porous material, which will be used to remove the metals from the battery impregnated parts such as cathode, anode, electrolyte, and separator. This process will save energy and carbon footprint compared to the current methodology which is use of Battery Recycling Shredders.

The role: R&D Engineering Manager

My client is an established key player in the high precision re-manufacturing industry, primarily focused on the design, manufacture and selling of equipment, consumables and knowledge transfer into the global semiconductor, geological and optical engineering markets. Their equipment delivers unrivalled accuracy, precision, and repeatability. They are looking for an experienced R&D / engineering manager to lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers.
Approximately 60% of all systems sold incorporate customer specific engineering content, making their output very low volume and high cost. They sell direct and through dealerships worldwide.
All engineering design, machining and assembly are conducted on site.
Essential characteristics:

• A highly driven, results-oriented and organised individual with a proven track record of successfully leading new product development and/or production engineering activities within a small to medium-sized business setting.
• Excellent project management skills, demonstrating the ability to bring projects in on time and to budget. These projects differ from size and complexity.
• Lead the R&D team.
• Degree qualified in Electrical/Electronic or Software engineering, alongside a proven track record of managing the mechanical engineering aspects of electro-mechanical equipment.
• Able to add technical value to department decision-making, acting as both mentor and facilitator to achieve the departmental and business objectives.
• Acting as the voice of engineering during design reviews, quality and fault reviews and production meetings.
• Able to effectively appraise capability and resource constraints and communicate issues with candour to all levels of the business, with the appetite and drive to improve the current status-quo.
• Lead personal development activities and SMART objective setting for the team, managing, and monitoring of KPI's to ensure individual and collective responsibilities are met.
• Willingness to assist in engineering data creation where necessary - Electrical schematics / Software applications, CAD and BOM data, wherever applicable and within the scope of prior experience.

Desirable characteristics

• Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, or similar precision integrated electromechanical equipment would be beneficial.
• Customer support experience with in-field issues.
• Prior involvement in the creation, maintenance, and enforcement of department processes.
• Experience of the following software packages:
• Solidworks + Solidworks data management
• Labview
• E3 electrical engineering software.
• Sage x3 or similar MRP system
• Q-pulse or similar quality management software.
• Experience of recruitment and on-boarding of engineering staff.
