Solid start, but career path can be tough

I worked as a Production Scheduler for MCC Label in Cincinnati, Ohio. It's a large corporate manufacturing company. The day-to-day for this onsite position was okay, but I felt really stuck when it came to career growth in the label printing industry.

Pros

The job security is pretty good for manufacturing roles. You learn a lot if you're new to the packaging solutions sector. Starting pay and benefits were decent for a Production Scheduler position.

Cons

Career growth is definitely a challenge here. There aren't many clear paths to move up past a certain point. Promotions within the Cincinnati, Ohio plant feel slow and often go to external hires.

Advice to Management

Management should really look into developing clearer internal promotion programs. Invest in employee development for those in production and scheduling roles. This would help with retention.

Culture is okay, but it's a grind
Pros: The team in the Cincinnati, OH plant is really solid. We look out for each other, especially as a production supervisor. There's a good sense of camaraderie on the floor for packaging professionals.
Cons: The company culture can feel pretty old-school, very corporate. There isn't much focus on innovation for the label printing industry. It's tough to get new ideas heard if you're not in upper management.
Advice to Management: Try to encourage more input from employees on the production floor. New ideas for label printing processes could really help.

Work Flexibility is a Real Challenge
Pros: The job security for manufacturing roles is pretty solid here. Benefits are okay for a big corporate company. You'll definitely learn a lot about label printing and production line management.
Cons: Work flexibility is almost non-existent for onsite roles, especially for Production Supervisors. Shift schedules are rigid; it's tough to get any WFH even for some office positions. Don't expect much understanding if you have personal appointments.
Advice to Management: Consider implementing more flexible shift options or at least giving more advance notice for schedule changes. Even a little WFH for certain administrative roles could boost morale and retention.

Okay for a start, but growth is slow
Pros: It's a pretty solid place to get your foot in the door in label manufacturing, especially for entry-level Production Supervisor roles. The job security is decent, and you learn a lot about the printing industry hands-on in the Cincinnati, OH facility. My onsite team was usually pretty supportive.
Cons: Career growth is honestly pretty slow here. It feels like you hit a ceiling fast as a Production Supervisor, especially in a large corporate environment. There aren't many clear paths to move up, and I've seen colleagues stuck for years.
Advice to Management: Work on creating clearer career paths. Give employees more chances to grow within the company. It would help with retention.
