The role of an Account Risk Engineer is critical to what we do at AIG, both as a risk management resource to our clients and as an advisor to our global insurance organization. Account Risk Engineers are responsible for working with our internal and external business partners to identify and mitigate risks during construction and/or erection projects.

About the role
What you need to know:
- Perform construction-all-risk (CAR) reviews of new builder risk projects by reviewing, interpreting, and summarizing third party technical risk information.
- Provide global risk selection guidance to Underwriters to support profitable underwriting for Construction (CAR) accounts.
- Manage the survey programs of Construction clients, including service plan development & report reviews.
- Complete internal and market report writing in an accurate and timely fashion using AIG report formats, loss estimation methods & software, and AIG risk rating tools.
- Where necessary, define testing and commissioning reporting requirements to demonstrate readiness for transfer from construction to operational insurance cover
- Conduct on-site project reviews and develop market reports
- Conduct client service meetings with underwriting, broker and client
- Identify risk improvements opportunities for projects and work with the client to prioritize and implement them
- Estimate of the cost of engineering services
- Analyze the loss prevention attributes of a project including:Reviewing methods of construction
Review management best practices inclusive of water mitigation, security, ignition source control, etc.
Identify occupancy hazards and assess the adequacy of their protection features
Identify and assess the impact of external exposures on a facility
Determine fire and natural catastrophe loss estimates for a facility
What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in the Construction industry and/or construction Insurance Industry
- Professional Engineer Designation (desired but not required)
- Knowledge of various occupancies and the ability to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations
- Extensive experience in design, construction, commissioning, and operations of civil construction projects.
- Strong communicator (both oral and written)
- Highly motivated and works well without close supervision.
- Ability to make decisions with and without established guidelines and to provide technical support to internal and external business partners
- Ability to complete assignments on-time.
- Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instruments
- Ability to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials
- Ability to perform physical activities required for the position (i.e., be on feet and walking 8 hours a day, safely work at heights)
- Ability to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazards
- Ability to safely use ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other access equipment
- Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment of reasonable weight
- Ability to perform work outdoors
- Ability to wear safety equipment required for the position (hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection)
- Ability to type at a computer for several hours a day
- Position is expected to travel and attend meetings at various office, field, and construction sites
- Possess at minimum of at least one year of driving experience with a valid driver’s license and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
